Yeah, IMO there's no reason to go above 250W (some will disagree) but I think that there's exactly one animal in reefing systems that actually would require a 400W MH to keep: carpet anenomes.

If your'e going to stick with softies and "easy" LPS in a shallow tank the 150 HQI (or 175W SE) would be adequate, but if you even think that you might one day ever want to do SPS then I would recommend the 250.

No worries; YVW. And remember, the only dumb questions are the ones that don't get asked. Oh, and your sanity would probably be a lot more intact without us.

reefgeek.com usually has some of the best prices around; Premium Aquatics is a JARC sponsor and will also typically do right by the members as well. If you're looking for something used/local your best bets are going to be Reef Central and Craigslist.

okay guys i think i have finally decided on Mh. Im going with two pendants. Two Ice cap 250w eballast, Ice cap mogul pendants. Now as far as bulbs go which one do you more experienced reefers suggest 250w 14k hamilton or 12k reeflux. I dont want the higher k because all i have in my tank are frags and i heard the higher the k the better the color but the slower the growth. Please let me know if this would be a good setup and also the suggestions on the bulbs. Thinking of getting all this from premium aquatics.

If you aren't going to add actinic I would highly recommend the Radium 20ks. They give me very good growth and color. If you want a 14K bulb I have had very good success on another tank (with VHO actincs, tho) with the Phoenix bulbs.

Oh and good choice on the Ice Cap ballasts and pendants. Quality stuff there.
